In the meantime we have been home for a while. On July 13th Air Transit brought us safely to the ground. And here on Frisian soil we’re already hard at work with the further preparations of de Canadian tour. But of course we won’t withhold the last part of our travel diary! We can say our trip to Canada has been successful. It provides us 6 performances (3 in option), that the decor will be made, that we organized the technics and that we met a lot of people who will help us with it. Especially Henk and Gerda Tolsma, thank you so much for your support and hospitality.
So far we will play De Emigrant on: September 28 and October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 2013 in Canada.

So Air Transit, here we come, again!

Saturday july 6th – Canada trip Ontario – part 2
The journey has begun. Our office is mostly in the car as we travel through the beautiful Canadian scenery… traveling from city to countryside…from highway to gravel roads…from wifi to wifi hotspots.
On Saturday June 29th, we had an interview with Martin van Denzen from the Dutch radio station in Oakville. We went live on air at 9.00 am. It was a good interview and we even spoke some Frisian on the radio!
The same day we met Floor Kromhout, a dutch emigrant who left to Canada when he was 17. At an ‘On Route’ (yet another coffee shop on the side of the road) with a ‘Timmy’s’ coffee in hand, we had a nice chat. Many tips & tricks were learned and…..he’s gonna make our decor! Needless to say, walking back to the car were two guys with big smiles on their faces.
On Monday July 1st there was the ‘Fryske dei’ in Paris. Each year, on Canada Day, many Frisian people from all over Ontario gather around to play ‘stoelendans’, ‘zaklopen’ and ‘keatsen’. What a perfect day to promote De Emigrant! We only just arrived and immediately there was a crowd gathering around us…the attention was building. Actually the whole day through, we met many people and heard many stories. Stories like the one from our Sybolt de Haas. De Emigrant starts to get its fame…

Well, we arrived. Yes, we arrived. Already a few days passed, and we have experienced a lot. We arrived in Toronto on June 27th, after an 8 hour flight. Everything went well until we reached the car rental office, which didn’t go as smooth as we had planned. A security deposit had to be payed that we didn’t know about. Our simple credit-card couldn’t handle that. No car for us, as the ‘ computer says no’ ! Time for plan B: we head to Woodstock by bus, under supervision of our excellent bus driver named Ron. Waiting for us is Gerda Tolsma who picked us up and drove us to their farm; our home for the trip through Ontario. Our adventure has begun… Greetings from David and Theo!
To be continued…
